Beverage Fountain Recipes: Iced Tea & 'Mocktails' & Kid-Friendly Punch (Alcohol Free) Edition

Follow Fountain Punch Recipes's board Iced Tea & 'Mocktails' & Kid-Friendly Punch Recipes (alcohol free) on Pinterest.

When I think of a 'Mocktail' - Shirley Temple has always come to mind...

Shirley Temple is a non-alcoholic mixed drink traditionally made with ginger ale, a splash of grenadine and garnished with a maraschino cherry. [1][2][3][4][5]Modern Shirley Temple recipes may substitute lemon-lime soda or lemonade and sometimes orange juice in part, or in whole.[6][7]
Shirley Temples are often served to children dining with adults in lieu of real cocktails, as is the similar Roy Rogers.
The cocktail may have been invented by a bartender at Chasen's, a restaurant in Beverly HillsCalifornia, to serve then child actress Shirley Temple. Other claims to its origin, however, have been made.[8][9]

The Unique World Around: Peacock Edition

Follow Lady Fountain's board P- Peacock on Pinterest.

From Wikipedia:  The Indian peacock has iridescent blue and green plumage. The peacock "tail", known as a "train", consists not of tail quill feathers, but highly elongated upper tail coverts. These feathers are marked with eyespots, best seen when a peacock fans his tail. Both sexes of all species have a crest atop the head. The Indian peahen has a mixture of dull grey, brown, and green in her plumage. The female also displays her plumage to ward off female competition or signal danger to her young.
The green peafowl differs from the Indian peafowl in that the male has green and gold plumage with black wings with a sheen of blue. Unlike the Indian peafowl, the green peahen is similar to the male, only having shorter upper tail coverts, a more coppery neck, and overall less iridescence.
The Congo peacock male does not display his covert feathers, but uses his actual tail feathers during courtship displays. These feathers are much shorter than those of the Indian and green species, and the ocelli are much less pronounced. Females of the Indian and African species are dull grey and/or brown.
Chicks of both sexes in all the species are cryptically coloured. They vary between yellow and tawny, usually with patches of darker brown or light tan and "dirty white" ivory.
Occasionally, peafowl appear with white plumage. Although albino peafowl do exist, this is quite rare and almost all white peafowl are not, in fact, albinos: they have a genetic mutation called leucism which causes an overall reduction in pigment which, in peafowl, causes a complete lack of pigment in their plumage, but still leaves them with blue eyes; by contrast, true albino peafowl have a complete lack of melanin and therefore have white plumage, but also an albino's characteristic red or pink eyes. Leucistic peachicks are born yellow and become fully white as they mature.

The Unique World Around: Ivy Edition

Follow Lady Fountain's board Ivy (Poison) Ivy on Pinterest.

“Ivy has been accused of destroying everything in its path and threatening some of our best loved heritage sites. Yet these findings suggest that there are many benefits to having ivy growing on the wall. It not only provides colourful foliage but also provides walls with weatherproofing and protection from the effects of  pollution.”

Unique Teapots From Around The World

Follow Lady Fountain's board Care For Some TEA? on Pinterest.

"A Nice Cup of Tea" is an essay by English author George Orwell, first published in the London Evening Standard on 12 January 1946.[1] It is a straight-faced discussion about the craft of making a cup of tea, including the line: "Here are my own eleven rules, every one of which I regard as golden."[2][3]
Orwell wrote that "tea is one of the mainstays of civilisation in this country and causes violent disputes over how it should be made", and his rules cover such matters as the best shape for a teacup, the advisability of using water that is still boiling, and his preference for very strong tea.[2] He also considers what he calls "one of the most controversial points of all" - whether to put tea in the cup first and add the milk after, or the other way around, acknowledging, "indeed in every family in Britain there are probably two schools of thought on the subject".[3] Orwell says tea should be poured first because "one can exactly regulate the amount of milk whereas one is liable to put in too much milk if one does it the other way round."[4] "I maintain that my own argument is unanswerable," he writes.[3]
